Concept Development: CooCooNut Love Animatic

For our final Concept project in Concept Development I, we were allowed to develop our own story idea. The only requirements are that the animatic had to be under one minute, and the story had to have two characters that wanted the same thing.

The first part of the process after we had our stories mapped out was to develop character designs and a basic birds eye view plan of the space in which our story was going to take place.

The next part of the process was to determine the seven key points in the story and illustrate them Here are mine: (as you can see my story changed a bit through the process)

This was the first pass animatic of my story:

And here is the final animatic….I hope you enjoy!!

Computer Animation: Simple Poly Exercises

Simple Poly was our final assignment of Computer Animation I. We had to design, build, and rig a simple round shaped character with legs and an object that can act as a follow through action. My character is a Christmas Elf, and his follow through motions are on is shoe toes and hat.

These were my possible character designs:

This is my final character design:

For this exercise we had to animate our character turning around at least 90 degrees. My Elf seems to have had a bit too much eggnog and is still feeling a bit tipsy!

For the next exercise we had to animate our character in a standard walk cycle.

For the last exercise we had to animate our character jumping.

This is the infamous Penguin project known by everyone at Ringling! We were given a physical foam penguin toy to replicate in Maya. We had four weeks to model, map UVs, paint, and put specular and bump maps on our penguin. I spent a total of 40 hours working on mine. Here it is, and i hope you enjoy!   (2013)

Here is a 20 second animatic i did for my Concept Development class at Ringling! We were given a story about rodents playing pool, and one of them messes the other one up by squeaking the chalk. The rest of the interpretation was up to us! Hope you enjoy!  (2013)

Concept Development: Frog Animatic

This is an animatic we did in my Concept Development 1 class. We were given a story about a frog who is singing and playing a banjo horribly, and someone throws a tomato at him, and had to develop the details/types of shots/angles, and create the final animatic. (2013)

We had to stage, model, and animate a short 10 second (240 frame) story involving two bouncing balls.  One ball had to be motivated and one had to be unmotivated (or 'dead'). Here is my project...i hope you like it!

This picture isn't the best quality, but here is a drawing i did of my boyfriend's pet turtle, Sebastian. It is done in graphite pencil. I haven't drawn anything realistic like this in a while so it was a lot of fun! (2013)

Character Design

We also had to design an original character in my Figure class! Remember Bandit the Military Macaw from one of my previous posts? We we now had to design our animal's owner! This is Molly. She is a 5 year old blue eyed blonde girl, whose parents adopted a macaw from an animal shelter for her to play with. She renamed Bandit 'Mr.Feathers' and dresses him up in doll clothes. She forces him to play tea party and do other girly things with her. He doesn't like it, but he's blind so he just sort of deals with it.

We also had to write a 'Hook statement' to begin the story of our illustration, and here is mine:

Bandit had woken up that morning knowing he had an unhappy day ahead of him, he just had no idea it would be this excruciatingly awful. His new master, Molly, had taken to calling him ‘Mr. Feathers’ which was just the icing on top of the cake after she had forced him into a horrid pink dress, and made him partake in the strange ritual she called a ‘tea party’. He had tried to escape from this prison before, and due to his being blind, had not prevailed. But, he finally found a way around that minor inconvenience, and tonight was the night he would break free.

Character Development

This is my character for my 3d class. We have been working on these projects for about two months now, and it has been such a fun experience. We had to completely invent our own character and make an environment for them too!! This is Pingo. He is a giant scorpion. He was born in New York and grew up in a time when tattooing was not only unacceptable, but it was illegal! Pingo, however, had a gift and the drive to pursue tattooing. After all, he does have a built in tattoo machine in his stinger at the end of his tail! Its like he was born for this. He was kicked out of his home and shunned by his family and friends, so he went off to find a place where he'd be accepted. He ended up making a deal with the people of Coney Island. He would tattoo them in exchange for free room and board.  So now, he lives at Coney Island in one of the circus tents. He tattoos, and has picked up sword swallowing while there.

Here is Pingo's environment!

Pingo's environment is made of fabric, acylic paint, wire, foam core, sculpey, and hot glue. Everything is handmade. (2013_

Drawing

These are all the studies i did of Bandit ( in my previous post) before doing the final caricature! I started out with gestures, moving on to stuctural studies, and finally studying the skeletal structure. (2013)

Caricature

This is Bandit. He is a military macaw. I went to a zoo with my figure drawing class, and we had to caricature an animal. I chose Bandit because he was so interesting. He is blind, so he moves around differently than the other macaws. In my caricature of him,he is feeling around in front of him to make sure he doesnt run into anything. (2013)

Sketchbook

For my figure drawing class we went to a place called jungle gardens, and another called the big cat habitat to draw from live animals!! we were expected to capture the gestures of the animals. It was so much fun!! Also quite challenging.

Digital Painting

For this project, we had to design a room for a specific type of character, so that if the viewer were to look at it without knowing who the character, they would be able to guess. My character was the tooth fairy. This was mainly completed in photoshop, and is an analogous color scheme. (2013)

Illustration

This is the process work for my last post. This shows the steps from the beginning observational drawing of the model, the the pushed pose, then my interpretation of the pushed pose made in to a character.

Illustration

This was a project for my Figure II class at Ringling. We had a chance to draw from a live model in class, then for the project, we had to push the pose and gesture of the original drawing. Playing with the drapery and props and body language of the invented character was all part of the project. This was completely done in photoshop.

Drawing

This was a very quick project- we were only given 3 days to complete it! We had to do a piece in two point perspective, using only graphite pencil, portraying a strange place we've visited. This piece was done on bristol board. I drew the ruins of Pompeii in Italy. This isnt a strange place in the general sense of the word, but i felt very strange while visiting it. I felt overwhelmed by the emptiness and thought that so many people died where i was standing.
